Australia, the “lucky country”, shrugs off Covid and is set to boom

They call Australia the “lucky country” and it is easy to see why.

It was hit hard by Covid early but a combination of swift government action, geographic isolation – and luck – means life is almost back to normal and the economy is booming.

No masks in shops, restaurants and bars full, offices buzzing with people: it is all very different to what most of the rest of the world is experiencing.

After a big contraction in the first wave of Covid, the Australian economy grew faster than at any time since 1976 in the pre-Christmas period.

Zac Radbone, Moore Global head of Digital Media, recently returned to visit his home town of Adelaide after a year locked down in London.

He made a video diary of his experiences and says: “The two cities might be 10,000 miles apart on a map but they might as well be on different planets right now.”
